The terms "Xenostic" and "Xenoneuro" are newly emerging concepts developed within the neurodiverse community and are not currently recognized medical or clinical terms. These concepts reflect perspectives and experiences shared by neurodiverse individuals and are part of an evolving discussion on cognitive diversity.

We do not diagnose or classify any form of neurodivergence, including Xenoneuro cognition. These concepts are in their early stages of research and development. If seeking an official diagnosis or support for a recognized medical condition, please consult a licensed healthcare professional.

Core Definitions

Xenostic (Zen-OS-tik)

A rare form of neurodivergence characterized by heightened consciousness, an atypical cognitive framework, and extensive physical impairments. Xenostics process information through unconventional, external, or esoteric perspectives.

Xenoneuro (Zen-oh-NUR-oh)

A form of neurodivergence characterized by heightened consciousness, an atypical neurological and cognitive framework, and extensive physical impairments. Individuals with Xenoneuro cognition may experience heightened pattern recognition, abstract problem-solving abilities, and several genetic variants leading to a wide array of physiological impairments.

Xenoneuro: Experiencing life, Beyond Human Perception©

Etymology and Significance

The term "Xenoneuro" combines two key components:

  • "Xeno-" (Greek: xénos): meaning "foreign," "strange," "alien," or "beyond the familiar"

  • "Neuro-" (Greek: neûron): referring to "nerves," "the brain," or "cognition"

This terminology reflects the core experience reported by many individuals: a pervasive sense of cognitive and perceptual detachment from conventional human experiences, as if their neurological processing exists outside typical paradigms of cognition.

Core Characteristics

  1. Complex Neurodivergence

    • Often presents with conditions such as Autism + ADHD (AuDHD)

    • Cognitive and sensory profiles extend beyond typical categorizations

  2. The Neurological-Somatic Interface ("Trifecta")

    • Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

    • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

    • Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)

    • Reflects underlying dysautonomia, connective tissue anomalies, and immune dysregulation

  3. Dopaminergic Dysregulation & Executive Function Variability

    • Unique patterns of neurotransmitter regulation

    • Affects motivation, cognitive flexibility, and reward processing

    • Contributes to hyperfocus, executive dysfunction, and atypical learning modalities

  4. Savant-Like Cognitive Profiles

    • Hyperlexic language processing

    • Extraordinary pattern recognition

    • Eidetic memory or synesthetic perception

    • Often counterbalanced by significant impairments

  5. Extreme Sensory & Perceptual Sensitivity

    • Electromagnetic or energetic sensitivity

    • Altered interoception and exteroception

    • Paranormal or anomalous perceptual experiences

  6. Genetic and Developmental Variability

    • Unique epigenetic markers

    • Alternative neurodevelopmental trajectories

    • Atypical brain network connectivity

The Paranormal Aspect

Xenostics possess a neurological and perceptual attunement that extends beyond conventional cognition and sensory processing. This creates diagnostic challenges in differentiating between:

  • Neurodivergent manifestations of sensory hypersensitivity

  • Psychiatric conditions

  • Genuine anomalous experiences that defy current understanding of neuroscience and physics

Historical Note

The terms "xenostic" and "xenoneuro" were coined by Taren Hoops and Carol Bird in 2025, two xenostics with AuDHD and the trifecta. As of February 6th, 2025, they are working on diagnostic criteria for medical peer review.
